In this exhibition the three dimensional work is a counterpoint to the bold flat canvases on display. The colourful patterned forms of Jackie’s ceramics balance the flat, simpler surfaces found in Barbara’s abstracts. The whimsy of birds and animal shapes on earthenware contrast with the simply coloured large abstracts.
Barbara moves away from her signature heavy brushstrokes and intuitive mark-making to explore nuanced gradations of tone, sweeping movement and innovative spatial relationships all in full colour. Click on Barb’s images for more information.
Jackie’s pieces begin with a clay form and a feeling of colour that suggests landscape, weather, birds, wildflowers, sky and boathouses. Colour leads her to a sense of place on the south shore.
